100 Years Ago (1898)

Bobb’s Mill – Mrs. E. W. Bobb went to Hewitt last week as a delegate from this place to confer with a council there with a view of establishing a Congregational Church.  Miss Hattie Colby accompanied her. – P. E. Bobb, who has recovered from his rheumatic attack, Thomas Bobb, Claude Colby and Albert Rusch went to Diamond Lake on Thurs., returning on Sat. Each brought home cranberries enough for a pie and all came home with the conclusion that is not the place to go for fish.
 
The first frost of the season was noticeable on the morning of Sept. 9th.
 
Mosman Garrison and Guy Hudson left for Delafield on Mon. where they will attend school during the next year.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)

 
Henderson’s Corner – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Nimbar, of Maplehurst on Fri. Aug. 31.  Mrs. Nimbar is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. VanGorder.
 
Miss Clara Velcheck is attending Normal School at Stevens Point.  Miss Alice Velcheck left for Stevens Point Sat. where she will attend Normal.
 
A nine pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis P. Papierniak, on Wed.
 
Jay Christian was taken to the hospital at Chippewa Falls, last week where he underwent an operation on Wed.
 
A. R. Chapman, for several years a resident here, who moved to Red Granite last June, died at his home there on Wed.
 
The Thorp Dairy Co. has begun rebuilding their plant, recently destroyed by fire, last week.  The butter department, which was partially destroyed, will be ready to begin operations again in about two weeks.  The cheese department will necessitate the construction of an entire new building.  The new structure will be 26 x 50 feet in size, of brick and tile construction and the work on same is also under way.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)
 
The wedding of Edmund Krych, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych and Miss Valentina Badzinski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Badzinski, was solemnized at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church here on Sat. morning, Aug. 21st.
 
Gilman – Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Kondraszuk a baby boy, on Sun. at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Chippewa Falls.
 
Last rites were conducted Wed. afternoon, Sept. 1st at the church at Hannibal for Robert A. Dodge, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Dodge, of Hannibal, who was killed when struck by a car four miles north of Hannibal on Aug. 29th.
 
Funeral services for Frank J. Szczech, 72, who died Aug. 25th at the Stanley Hospital, were held Sat. morning at the Junction Church.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rusch at the Stanley Hospital on Tues. Sept. 7th.
 
A baby boy was born to Rev. and Mrs. L. T. Droegemueller of Thorp, at the Stanley Hospital on Mon. Sept. 6th.
 
A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hanson, on Wed. Sept. 8th at the Marshfield Hospital.
 
Lone Oak – Mr. and Mrs. Walter Emerson moved their household effects into their new residence at the Lone Oak Cheese Factory, which Walter is now operating. – Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jakubowicz are moving into Walter Emerson’s house near Oak Vale School this week.  Joe is employed at the Lone Oak Cheese Factory.
 
Miss Mary Ann Meske, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Meske, Thorp, became the bride of Mr. Charles Goettler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Goettler, Milwaukee, at a beautiful wedding ceremony at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Sat. Sept. 4th.
 
The marriage of June Lenore Wohlleben, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Wohlleben, and Elwyn George Kinney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burt C. Kinney, of Fairmont, Minn., took place at the Methodist Church in Thorp on Sept. 4th.
 
On Sat. morning, Aug. 28, a beautiful wedding took place at St. Hedwig’s Church when Miss Regina Lobacz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lobacz became the bride of Chester Rogalski, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rogalski.
 
25 years Ago (1973)

 
A daughter Joy Marie was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gary Burkholder on Sept. 12th at Sacred Hert Hospital, Eau Claire.
 
On Sun. Sept. 2, 1973 Mr. and Mrs. Leon Kaczmarek were the guests of honor at a party hosted by their family in honor of their 25th Wedding Anniversary.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Norbert (Anna) Wettstein, 67, were held Mon. at Notre Dame Church, Chippewa Falls.
 
Fred Draeger, 88, resident of Stanley, passed away at the Victory Memorial Hospital Mon. noon.
 
A son, Jeffrey Robert, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Osebold of Mt. Prospect, Ill. on Tues. Sept. 4th.
 
10 Years Ago (1988)

 
Hilma Ramberg, 86, Thorp, died Tues. Sept. 6, 1988, at Victory Memorial Hospital, at Stanley.
 
Alvina Dodd, 90, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Withee, died Thurs. Sept. 1, 1988 at Ft. Lauderdale.
 
Leo A. Kolpien, 77, Eau Clarie, died Sun. Aug. 28, 1988 at the Clairemont Nursing Home.
 The dedication of the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial near Neillsville was held Sept. 18, 1988.
