100 Years Ago (1898)

Bobb’s Mill – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Bobb, on Sept. 26th.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Alger on Thurs.
 
Seven car loads of potatoes were purchased from farmers in this vicinity by R. Van Hook and shipped from here last week.  Price paid was from 20¢ to 22¢.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Verweyst on Sept. 29, and a son to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heiding, of the Town of Worden, on Oct. 1st.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)
 
Gregory Corner – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. August Foster, Thurs. Sept. 27th.
 
Neiman’s Corner – A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wichlacz last Thurs. Sept. 27th. – A very pretty wedding took place last Wed. when Miss Martha Mamajek was married to Joe Zulelski at St. Hedwig’s Church.
 
Jos. F. Yaeger, for several years buttermaker at the Thorp Dairy Co. creamery, has accepted a position with a similar concern at Ironton, Sauk Co. and moved to that village.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)

 
Marion Mae Mattes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mattes of Thorp, became the bride of Mr. George Autio, son of Rev. and Mrs George Autio, of Harrison, Maine, in a ceremony performed by Rev. T. C. Bundgaard, pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church of Withee at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening Sept. 25th, at the home of the bride’s parents in the Town of Reseburg.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Anton Micke, of Thorp, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sun. Sept. 26th.
 
A four o’clock candlelight ceremony was the setting last Sat., when Lillian Manicki, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley J. Manicki of Hartland, Wis., became the bride of Robert C. Bohrman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shuff, Waukesha, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Waukesha, Wis.
 
Taft – Twins, a boy and girl were born to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Johnson, Sept. 24th at Victory Hospital, Stanley.
 
Butler – A son was born Sept 1st to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hutson, of Portland, Oregon.  Mrs. Hutson was the former Dorothy Reineke.
 
In a double ring ceremony at the St. Genevieve’s Church, Chicago, Miss Eleanor Schimanski, of Chicago, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Herman, of Thorp, became the bride of Mr. Michael Rizzo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Rizzo, of Chicago.
 
Miss Katherine Thieme, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Thieme of Chicago became the bride of George Stszeszynski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stszeszynski of Thorp at St. Hyacinth’s Church, Chicago, on Sept. 4th.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Pat Milligan of Stanley on Mon. Sept. 27th at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
On Thurs. Sept 16th, a son, Robert Francis, weighing nine pounds, eleven ounces, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lesniewski.
 
Andrew Misiora, 65, passed away at Mt. Washington Hospital at Eau Claire, on Thurs. Sept. 9th, death being caused by cancer.
 
25 years Ago (1973)
 
 Mrs. Sophie Bednarz, 85, died at Victory Memorial Hospital, Fri. Oct. 5th.
 
Rev. R. W. Olson’s father, Mr. Sig. Olson, of Eau Claire passed away Sun. morning at his home.
 
A son, Edward George, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Reiner of Golden, Colorado, Sept. 10th.
 
Junction – A son Matthew was born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wisz, of Midlothian, Ill.
 
Christ E. Ness, 89, a resident of Stanley, passed away Sat. at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Frank Wellner 79, Chippewa Falls, died at his home.
 
John M. Gisvold, 78, a resident of Chippewa Falls, died suddenly Fri. afternoon enroute to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
 
10 Years Ago (1988)
 
Lester Butterfield, Thorp, Town of Reseburg, died at his home Mon. Sept. 26, 1988.
 
South Worden – Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lato received a phone call from Nancy and Mike Thompson of Lexington, Virginia telling them they have a new granddaughter, Brandy Rae, born Sat. Sept. 24th.
 
Mary Kramer and Joseph Boden exchanged marriage vows on Sat. July 30, 1988 at First Presbyterian Church, Hudson.
 
Chester Liszewski of Lublin and Frances Slowiak of Stanley were married Sept. 3, 1938 at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Junction and celebrated their Golden Anniversary on Aug. 6, 1988.
 
Lorraine T. Keating and Jack A. Heinemann exchanged marriage vows on Aug. 27, 1988 at First English Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
 
Joseph John Bojarski, 77, died on Aug. 30, 1988 in St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, Ill.
