Way Back When

Why are June weddings so popular with couples?  Maybe it is the sunshine filled days without the hot summer heat to contend with.  Perhaps it is because so many beautiful spring flowers are in bloom to fill the bride’s bouquet.  Whatever the reason; June remains the most popular month of the year for newlywed couple’s and that is why this photo is so appropriate for this week’s “Way Back When.”  The bride is seated wearing her beautiful dress and long flowing veil, with her husband at her side in his handsome suit.  Attendants stand behind the couple and the whole wedding party wears such somber expressions.  For those of us who have been through this very situation, we know it is a look of exhaustion.  Can you tell us who this young newlywed couple is?  What time in history was this photograph taken?

Bob Pease had some interesting information about the six people in the photograph of the May 30th “Way Back When.”  Well, actually Bob informed us that seven people were involved including the photographer.  It seems all six graduates were cousins (descendents of Joseph and Mary Bogumill) five of the students started kindergarten together.  They were also related to the photographer.  More interesting than this is the fact that although these students graduated from the new Thorp High School on the south-east corner of Thorp, none of the students attended even one day of school there.  That is because construction on the new school had just been completed.  The kindergarten teacher as Louise Misfeldt and Eileen Frenette took the photograph; both are parents of the graduating students.

The graduates from 1964 are pictured: (L-R) Peter Bogumill, son of Claybourne and Myrth Bogumill; Eric Polnaszek, son of Edward and Charlotte Polnaszek; Bob Pease, son of Mrs. Theresa (Teddy) Pease; Tom Misfeldt, son of Clyde and Louise Misfeldt; Francis Bogumill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bogumill; and Joan Frenette, daughter of Bernard (Bunny) and Eileen Frenette.
