Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   March 11, 2009..

In this week’s photo, it looks like a nice couple is seated to partake of a 50th wedding anniversary cake while friends look on.  Who are these two long-paired lovebirds?  Do you know when or where this picture was taken?

In our February 18, 2009 issue, we featured several men standing on and around a giant machine of some sort.  Ron Barger let us know that the machine is likely a steam tractor, manufactured by the Advance Thresher Company later changed its name to Advance-Rumley after a sale, and then Allis-Chalmers Company later after another sale.  He estimates the tractor was made before 1900, although stripped of some of the original equipment.  The picture under the boot of the man sitting on the tractor shows a squire or knight climbing a hill with the company banner.

We also received information from an unknown source about the picture in the March 4, 2009 issue.  The picture, provided by the Thorp Historical Society, featured the Polish Folk Dancers, which sang and danced at events throughout central Wisconsin from the 1970s to the 1990s, when they disbanded.

Some of the people from the picture are listed, in no particular order: Director Al Ciolkosz, Roger Truckey, Judy Burzynski, Dan Kotecki, Ray and Theresa Slipek, Joe and Mary Ann Truckey, Frances Pawlak, Paul and Barb Slowiak, Janice Chura, Frank and Mary Ogurek, Pete and Virgie Burzynski, Ed and Rosemary Pszeniczny, Clarence and Alice Mroz, Chet and Delores Strzok, Ray and Elaine Pszeniczny, Ed and Josephine Kotecki, Ed and Mary Ann Beino, and Frank Ogurek.  Thank you for the information.
