Five woman stand together, dressed for a special occasion and each pinned with a white carnation on their lapel, for this week’s Way Back When photo. Do you know who these ladies are or why they have gotten together?  Do you know the occasion for which they have gathered?  Let us know what you know by contacting The Thorp Courier.

The five men standing together in suits in the Way Back When photo last week have been identified.  The photo was taken at a Clark County Democratic party banquet.  The five men have been identified as (L-R) Lester Johnson, Joseph Tobola, Ernest Gay of Owen, Reverend Francis Piekarski of St. Hedwig’s parish, and Senator Gaylord Nelson.  Janet Hedler Solie, granddaughter of Joseph Tobola, identified the men in the photo.  Lester Johnson was a Democrat from Black River Falls who served as a Wisconsin member of the House of Representatives from 1953 to 1965.  Gaylord nelson was a Democrat from Clear Lake that served as Governor of Wisconsin from January 5, 1959 to January 7, 1963.  The five men in the photo mad up the head table at the Clark County Democratic Party banquet in honor of Senator Nelson.

Two weeks ago, in honor of Veterans Day, a picture of a young service man was featured as the Way Back When photo.  The soldier was identified as Victor Kaszubowski.  Some more information about Kaszubowski has been offered since then.  Kaszubowski, the youngest child of the family, was born in 1924.  He served in the Company A 38th Armored Infantry Battalion; Private Frist Class Kaszubowski was killed on January 21, 1945 at the Battle of the Bulge
