Something remarkable is happening in Thorp, Wisconsin!  But what is it?  The two men featured in this week’s Way Back When photo are excited to see the thrilling event.  Do you know what all the excitement is about up above?  Do you know who these two men are or what they are watching?  Let us know what you know by contacting The Thorp Courier.

Last week, a picture of two men out on the ice was used as they Way Back When photo.  Sylvia Weiler of Holcombe contacted The Thorp Courier to inform us that she recognized the men in the photo and their location.  A father and son by the names of Steve Kostick and Steve Kostick, Jr. were identified.  In the photo, they were out cutting ice blocks eight miles northeast of Thorp in the early 1940’s to chill food and drinks at the tavern that they owned and operated.

Two weeks ago, The Thorp Courier featured a Way Back When photo of the old theater in Thorp.  We received a letter from John Troz, 92, formerly of Thorp, currently of King, Wisconsin, giving lots of information on the theater, especially from a personal perspective.  Troz informed us that the Bogumill family owned the theater in the 1930’s.  He also mentioned that it was next to farmer’s store, also owned by the Bogumill’s.  On a personal note, Troz wrote that he would walk five and a half miles to go see the movie, and when it would rain; there would be sink holes, which he would occasionally trip over on the way home.
