William Smithers

April 14, 1822 - July 17, 1905

William Smithers was an early settler who came to York Township circa 1885 from Fond du Lac County.  The 1870 Federal Census for Fond du Lac County shows a William Smithers (48) living in Alto Township.  William and Lois Smithers were the parents of Edna Lawrence (Horace A. Lawrence’s second wife), Maggie Hales (Albert Hales’ wife), Dora Rowe (Edward Rowe’s wife, Edward being William M. Rowe’s brother) and Lois Fulwiler (Levi Fulwiler’s wife).  William and Lois Smithers’ grandchildren include Loren Hales (Pearl Hales’ husband and Verla Dahl/Hales’ second husband), Ella Eibergen (Richard Eibergen’s mother), Lois Vandeberg (Abram Vandeberg’s wife), Orin Lawrence, Roy Lawrence, Floy Huntley (Harmon Huntley’s wife), Earl Lawrence, Olive Campbell (Charles Campbell’s wife), Carrie Lawrence, and Horace  H. Lawrence.
