Fern Vandeberg

September 9, 1889 - December 30, 1974

wpe9.gif (9295 bytes)Fern (nee Alton) Vandeberg was the daughter of John and Viola (nee Parker) Alton, who came to York Township in July of 1902.[i]  She was a sister to Ida Root, whose husband, Elwin Root, was a son to George and Emma (nee Gibson) Root, who were early pioneers of York Township and are also buried in York Center Cemetery.  She was also a sister to Viola Alton; the wife of Earl Lawrence (one of Horace and Edna Lawrence's sons) who is buried in York Center Cemetery.  Fern married Horace Vandeberg, a son of John and Lillian (nee Lawrence) Vandeberg.  John Vandeberg was an early settler of York Township.  Lillian was also a daughter of Horace A. Lawrence, an early York Township pioneer and Civil War veteran, and his first wife, the former Lorinda Windsor (a daughter of Anson Windsor, another York pioneer).  Horace Lawrence was a son of Jesse and Almeda (nee Benedict) Lawrence, who also came to York Township in the 1870s.
