wpeD.gif (4925 bytes)John Vandeberg was an early settler of York Township who came to Clark County from Fond du Lac County.  The 1870 Federal Census for Fond du Lac County shows a John Vandeberg (12) living in Alto Township as a son to Chris Vandeberg.  He married the former Lillian Lawrence, a daughter of Horace A. Lawrence, an early York Township pioneer and Civil War veteran, and his first wife, the former Lorinda Windsor (a daughter of Anson Windsor, another York pioneer).  Horace Lawrence was a son of Jesse and Almeda (nee Benedict) Lawrence, who also came to York Township in the 1870s.  John was a brother to Abram Vandeberg, who married Lillian’s half-sister, the former Lois Lawrence.  Four of John and Lillian Vandeberg’s children are also buried in York Center Cemetery:  Alvin Vandeberg, Manley Vandeberg, Horace Vandeberg, and Ida Voight.
