THE NEW ADDITION

York Center United Methodist Church, Clark County, Wisconsin

Many hours have been spent contemplating the beginning of the addition, the actual planning, results and going over the many suggestions given by the members of the congregation. The chairperson of the Ad. Council, Joe Zvolena, along with the trustees, Jesse Zvolena, Warren Davis, Warren Mechelke, Debbie Ruggles, Laurel Bixby-Cook, and Mark Crothers had a big job to do to meet everyone's wishes. The following documents are typed as per written. A special meeting to give final approval of the building plans was held on Aug. 31,1994 at 8:30 PM. The meeting opened with remarks and prayer by Rev. Wes Falk. Jesse Zvolena then presided over the meeting at which 19 members were present. Jesse then read the bid made by Braun Construction, the only one submitted. Thetotalwas$19,084. It included Styrofoam under the floor and on the outside of the basement walls. A new furnace is to be installed upstairs and the present one installed in the basement, because of code requirements. The water supply was to be provided by a well including pump for about $1000 for a 100 foot well. (Jim Johnson offers pipe at no charge,). The kitchen walls are load bearing for support and there will need to be one post in the center of the main hall. The Styrofoam for insulating the basement wall would be about $715. There was some discussion about its desirability. The electric and plumbing would be under the direction of Artac of Greenwood. Local members can do as much as they wish and they will inspect it. (Artac) Rev. Falk then called for a vote by ballot. They were counted by Rev. Falk and Marvin Richmond. The vote was I I in favor and 8 voted no. The meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting was held on September 13th to discuss how to proceed with the building project now that we had all of the approvals.  It was agreed by all present that we should enter into a contract with Braun Construction to remove the existing foundation and pour a new basement in holding tank for the septic system. Work would begin the first we October, Mike Melvin was hired to oversee the carpenter work that needed to be done. Jim Johnson offered to give a new submersible pump, pipe, wire, and all necessary switches to the church for their water system. Al Dahl offered to purchase the wire and Marvin Richmond offered to remove the old wire and put in the new wire. All those present agreed to accept Al and Marvin's offer.

Braun Construction sub-contracted out the raising of the church to Schuette Builders of Wausau.

Haupt Well & Pump Company Inc. was hired to drill the well, Artac Plumbing and Electrician for the plumbing and Kuehn Appliance of Granton would do the heating.

Now that the plans have all been set in motion, we have to figure out how this project is going to get paid. That is where the finance committee came into the picture. All members of the York Center Church got a letter explaining the cost and where we could possibly get the money. First of all the final bid for the project was for $60,000.00. We have $25,00 in cash and another $15,000 in pledges but these pledges will be honored over the next three years, so this means we still need to borrow most of the money. So the idea of a member loan program came to be. Anyone willing to loan the church money would be paid back and would sign a promissory note.

This went well as some members stepped forward and came up with $17,500. The promissory note agreement states, the York Center United Methodist Church of Granton, Wisconsin, promises to pay annual interest at the rate of 6.75%, payable on the first of April each year, first interest payment to be April 1, 1995. The York Center United Methodist Church of Granton, Wisconsin, promises payment of the principal in full on or before April 1, 2000.

2000: The year 2000 brings much joy and hard work ahead for York
Center United Methodist Church. We still have a debt to be paid. This will
mean lots of meals to be served, bake sales, brat flies, and garage sales to set
up. Along with this hard work come the joy of fellowship with people of the
congregation. 'Men we had the weddings, baptisms, wedding & baby
showers. These are joyful happenings. In November several women of the
churchs pentan afternoon making chrismons for the Chrismon Service. This
was the first service of that kind in our church. Many repairs were done on
the church this past year, the roof, door hinges, outside door light, water in
kitchen sink and bathroom sink, light on the cross and furnace.

2001: With the beginning of 2001, our debt is now down to $6500.00.
Our goal is to get the debt paid by end of the year. Our first responsibility
is to keep up on our monthly bills and other items that need to be purchased.
In February came the share of a new computer for the church office. April
another $1500.00 paid on debt. Several shingles were off the roof, need of
repair. Alsopreparingfor0lanMilistodoanotherpicturedirectoryforthe
Loyal/York Center Charge. Congregation were asked to bring red flowers
to church to be planted outside for Pentecost Sunday. A new Cemetery
Monument now graces the area to the entrance of the cemetery, the
monument donated by the Zvolena family in memory of their loved ones.
June another $1500.00 off the debt. New heaters installed in the bathrooms
and the flagpole relocated to the porch railing. Septemberanother$1000.00
off the debt. New fence around the parking lot next to the road.

Our dream comes true. The debt is paid off in November.

A total of $13,029 was paid in 1994, and $40,227 in 1995 for a total cost of
$53,256.

A special thanks to all who have helped in any way ( with free labor-
donations of equipment and supplies- donation of money) but most of all, for
all your prayers.
