Richard and Darlene Bettin

Richard and Darlene Bettin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 21, 2007. A celebration in their honor is planned for July 7 at Renee and Doug Meyer's cottage on Big Bearskin Lake, Harshaw.

Richard, of Merrill, and the former Darlene Wirth, of Verdel, Neb., were married May 21, 1957, at First Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. Richard was in the Army Signal Corps stationed at the White House and Darlene worked for the Navy department in Washington, D.C., where they met on a blind date.

Richard worked for the Wausau Police Department and Wausau Insurance before retiring in 1990. Darlene's career path included being a Nebraska rural school teacher, Sternberg Insurance Agency and Wausau Insurance, retiring in 1995. They spent many winters on Anna Maria Island near Tampa, Fla. They now reside near Merrill.

Richard and Darlene have a daughter Renee (Doug) Meyer, Merrill; and Ken (Sue), Brown Deer; grandsons Eric (Melissa) Meyer, Merrill; Dion (Kelly) Meyer, Fox Lake, Ill.; Jason (Domelle) Bettin, West Allis; and Keith Bettin, Milwaukee; and great-grandchildren McKenna Meyer, Merrill; and Carter Meyer, Fox Lake, Ill.
