(31 May 1921 – 22 May 2004) Elmer L. Kuehmichel MERRILL - Elmer L. Kuehmichel, 82, of 401 East St., Merrill, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. David Klemm will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park, with graveside military rites conducted by the VFW Post 1638, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor & Stine Funeral Home in Merrill and at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday. Elmer was born May 31, 1921, in Marshfield, son of the late Charles and Lena (Berndt) Kuehmichel. Elmer married Katherine Stubbe on Jan. 26, 1946, in Marshfield. She survives. Elmer was the owner of the former Elmer's Shoe Service in Merrill. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill and also was a member of the church's Men's Club. Elmer was also a member of the Merrill Evening Lions Club and VFW Post 1638 in Merrill. After retiring, he continued to repair shoes at his home, and his specialty was refurbishing Sorrel boots. He also enjoyed bowling. Elmer served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a cook on a frigate, and he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska and also in the South Pacific. Survivors besides his wife, Katherine Kuehmichel of Merrill, include four sons, Ryan (Lynn) Kuehmichel of Boise, Idaho, Steven (Sheryl) Kuehmichel of Wausau, Kevin (Trisha) Kuehmichel of Cleveland, Ohio, and Dean (Martha) Kuehmichel of Spencer. He's also survived by nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Sutor of Marshfield and Esther Bruchheuser of Cudahy; and two brothers, Arthur (Bernice) Kuehmichel of Portland, Ore., and Richard (Darlene) Kuehmichel of Nampa, Idaho. Three sisters and seven brothers preceded Elmer in death. |
