Loretta H. Martens

Heaven welcomed another angel, Loretta Helen Martens, when she entered the Kingdom on Thursday, April 12, 2007.

Loretta was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Milwaukee, to the late Hubert and Anna Haase Barbian. She married William A. Martens in Milwaukee on June 14, 1941.

Loretta and William began their life together in Milwaukee and later moved to Clintonville, a place where they spent many happy years. Another move, in 1971, eventually brought Loretta and William to Merrill. Loretta and William were married 65 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, always putting other's needs first. Her life was a labor of love. Loretta was courageous in facing many health issues. Her faith gave her hope and strength. She had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit.

Survivors include her husband William, Merrill; her children Judith Martens, Merrill; William (Joann), Green Bay; Kathleen (Donald) Risch, Manitowoc; Michael (Gini), Waunakee; Elaine (Donald) Rappel, Chetek; Mary Ellen (Ronald) Sielski, Two Rivers; and Mark (Carol), St. Paul, Minn. Loretta enjoyed her 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Cecelia Lentz; and brother Alois Barbian.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 16, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Interment was in St. Rose Cemetery, Clintonville. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family. Loretta's family would like to thank Bell Tower Residence and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the loving care given to Loretta.
