Gertrude L. P. Jerabek

Gertrude Leona Pauline Jerabek, 91, found eternal peace with our Lord on Monday, April 16, 2007. Formerly of Algoma, she had resided in Merrill since 1999.

Gertrude was born to Henry and Wilhelmina Luedtke Wessel on May 14, 1915, in the town of Ahnapee, Kewaunee County. She married Henry Jerabek on June 18, 1935.

The couple farmed in the town of Pierce, receiving the Kewaunee County Outstanding Farmer Award in 1961. Following Henry's death in 1963, Gertrude lived in Algoma. She was a former Ladies Aid member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma. She enjoyed her family, completed hundreds of jigsaw puzzles and crocheted numerous afghans for family members and friends.

Survivors include her children Janice Jerabek, Foresthill, Calif.; Joyce (Charles) Batchelder, Merrill; James (Sandra), Watertown; Judy (Fred) Hollfelder, New Berlin; Jean (Bill) Baesemann, Elm Grove; Julie (Gary) Olson, Rapid River, Mich.; and Jackie (Jim) Jackson, Merrill; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son Jerome, and brothers and sisters Bertha Schley, Walter, Esther Zimmerman, Ernest, Herman, Elmer, Elsie Paul, George, Raymond, Amanda Moede, and Norman.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 18, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Algoma. Vicar Natsis officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. The Wiesner-Massart Funeral Home, Algoma, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Stroke Association. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill and friends for their support.
