Sister Salome Tlusty

Sister Salome Tlusty, 97, Sister of Mercy of the Holy Cross, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Service and the loving staff at Bell Tower Residence.

Sister Salome was born in Chelsea, daughter of the late Fred and Kate Tlusty. She entered Holy Cross Convent in Merrill on July 30, 1928, and took her First Profession on Sept. 15, 1933.

Sister Salome ministered in the field of education in Fenton, Mo.; Haymarsh and Dickinson, N.D.; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Antigo and Rhinelander. She ended her career as a medical librarian in Dickinson, N.D., in 1998 and retired to Bell Tower Residence in Merrill.

Sister Salome is survived by the Holy Cross Community; brothers Leonard (Shirley) Tlusty, Alexandria, Va.; and Harold Tlusty, Medford; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, April 18, at Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. Rev. Tom Zelinski officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huss Fund at Bell Tower Residence and may be sent to 1400 O'Day St., Merrill, WI 54452.
