Raymond W. Zimbal

Raymond W. Zimbal, 85, Brownwood, Texas, formerly of Merrill, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Brownwood, Texas.

Ray was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Merrill, son of Herbert and Theodora Strassburg Zimbal. He married Anne Donahoo on July 15, 1942, in Texas.

They reared two daughters, Cynthia Zimbal and Camilla Zimbal, and a son, Raymond (Janis) Zimbal.

Ray was a 1940 graduate of Merrill High School. After high school, he joined the Army Paratroopers and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Ray made a career of the Army and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. He had been a drummer in the military band for a number of years. Ray also loved woodworking.

Survivors include his wife Anne, Brownwood, Texas; children Cynthia Zimbal, Brownwood, Texas; Camilla Zimbal and Raymond (Janis) Zimbal, both of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; and sister Dorothy Liberty, Irma. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold and sister Ruth.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 29, in Brownwood, Texas. Burial was in Brownwood Cemetery, Brownwood, Texas.
