Duane E. Fryar Sr.

Duane Earl Fryar Sr., 73, of Tomahawk, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Born in Tomahawk on Feb. 16, 1934, Duane was the son of the late George and Verle Lutes Fryar. He married Kathleen Hanson on Aug. 14, 1954, in Tomahawk. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2003.

Duane owned and operated Shorty's Bar in Tomahawk from 1954 to 1967. He then moved to Merrill and worked for Green Bay Packaging until retiring in August 1993. Duane enjoyed fishing, playing cards, performing card tricks and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his son Duane (Page) Jr., Merrill; daughters Vietta "Vicky" (Brian) Leavitt, Irma; and Julia (Paul) Liebers, Merrill; and grandchildren Spencer and Samantha Fryar, Dustin and Travis Liebers and Reno Leavitt. Also surviving are sister, Ticy Rutherford, Rhinelander; and companion Phyllis of Tomahawk. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, grandson Derek Leavitt, and five brothers.

There will be private services. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
