Bernice Marie Hoftiezer

Bernice Marie Hoftiezer, 89, of Wausau, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Mary-wood Convalescent Center, Wausau.

Born on May 22, 1918, in Stratford, Bernice was the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna Stover Bolen. She married Clifford Hoftiezer on July 14, 1941, in Winona, Minn. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1998.

Bernice was a 1936 graduate of Spencer High School. She then worked for the former Employers Mutual until 1956. Bernice then devoted her time to being a mother and a homemaker. She was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church in Merrill, where she was involved with the Bethany Guild and taught Sunday School. Bernice was a Girl Scout leader while her daughters were in Scouting. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, visiting with her many friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters Mary Ann (Nick) Wreschnig, Manistee, Mich.; and Julie (Robert) Mutz, Merrill; grandchildren Daniel (fiancee Jennifer Najjar) Wreschnig, Boston, Mass.; David Wreschnig, Manistee, Mich.; Carissa Mutz, Stevens Point; and Craig Mutz, Merrill; and great-grandchild Mason Meyer, Stevens Point. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were Monday, July 30, at Bible Presbyterian Church, Merrill. Rev. Robert Smallman officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
