LaRUE DONNER

LaRue Donner, 77, of Henderson, Nev., passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007.

Edna LaRue Sigman was born Feb.17, 1930, in Erbacon, W.V., to the late Ida and Oran Sigman. She grew up in Cowan, W.V., and later moved to Washington, D.C., where she met and married Wesley Donner Jr. on Jan. 20, 1952. While living there she worked at F.B.I. headquarters.

LaRue and Wesley made their first home in Gleason, where they raised four children. When her family was young, she was a leader in the Cub Scouts and 4-H pro-grams. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for baking and decorating cakes for numerous occasions including weddings. She taught Sunday school classes and has remained a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Merrill. In 1979 they moved from Wisconsin to the southwestern states, living in Las Vegas, Nev.; Bullhead City, Ariz.; and most recently in Henderson, Nev. She enjoyed helping the less fortunate and several years made food for the homeless teen shelter. She crocheted blankets for the needy and was famous for her hand-made “baby afghans.” LaRue loved people, always willing to help those in need. Despite her many person-al ailments she always remained happy with a positive outlook on life. Her stories and jokes were part of every gathering she attended. She is well known by many for playing her guitar and singing songs.

She is survived by Wesley Donner Jr., her husband of 56 years; daughters Nancy Donner, Las Vegas, Nev.; Lynn Donner, Henderson, Nev.; and Diane Donner, Madison; son Ronald (Jackie), Northfield, Minn.; grandchildren Bill, Justine, Tovah, Ariella and Hannah; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Gaila Cogar and brother Jack Sigman, both of Amherst, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 31, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Carolyn Saunders officiated. Interment was in Merrill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Merrill.
