James Prentice

James E. Prentice, 77, of Jackson, Tenn., formerly of Gleason, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2007, at West Tennessee Transitional Care after a two-week illness.

James was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Valparaiso, Ind., to Hazzard and Edna Prentice. He married Elva Wiedenhoft on May 4, 1957, in Merrill. She survives.

James was a veteran of the Korean War and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He was a life -long member of the VFW. James was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 6 in Wausau for 31 years, where he was employed as a cement mason. Previous to that he was an over the road semi driver for Wisconsin Window Unit and Marathon Electric. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, and daily walks.

Survivors besides his wife Elva of Jackson, Tenn., include daughters Julie (Frankey) Walker, Jackson, Tenn.; and Jannell Smith, Salinas, Calif.; son Steve (Judy), Gilroy, Calif.; special nephews Nick Wiedenhoft, Merrill; and Harold Prentice, Richmond, Ill.; and special niece Heidi Wiedenhoft. Also surviving are brothers Frederick Prentice, Merrill; and Vernon (Barbara) Stocks, North Vernon, Ind.; and very special mother-in-law Juanita Wiedenhoft, Merrill; four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 4-6 p.m., at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.
