Thelma K. Vandehey

Thelma K. Vandehey, 90, of Antigo, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Langlade Memorial Hospital, Antigo, with her family, in the care of LeRoyer Hospice.

Thelma was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Appleton to the late William and Pauline Reiter Smith. On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Gerald Vandehey in Appleton. Gerry, the love of her life, preceded her in death on May 12, 2005.

Thelma was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers and Altar Society. She and her husband owned and operated Thelma's of Antigo for over 40 years and was the original owner of the Merrill and Clintonville stores. Her priority in life was her family. In addition, she enjoyed writing poems and telling jokes.

Survivors include her daughters Vicki (Dick) Hendricks, Marinette; Shirley (Don) Smith, Greensboro, Ga.; Connie (Dr. Tom) Schroepfer, Marinette; and Judy (Bob) Dahms, Pickerel; son Bill (Mary), Merrill; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister Gertrude Gajewski and brother Elmer Smith.

Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 24, at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiated. The Bradley funeral Home, Antigo, served the family. Online condolences may be made at www.bradleyfh.com.
