Harold W. Schenzel

Harold W. "Mouse" Schenzel, 86, of Merrill, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and his family.

Harold was born June 18, 1921, in Merrill, son of the late William and Anna Brandt Schenzel. He married Edna "Jerry" Jirik in Neva on Nov. 28, 1946. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2005.

Mouse graduated from Merrill High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in Australia and the Phillipines. Mouse worked at the former Fowler Drug Store in Merrill for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill, where he sang in the church choir and also sang in a quartet with Bill Storm, Bill Weber and Norman Heckendorf. He also served on the church council. Mouse and Jerry had received the 'Faith Award' from St. Stephen's. He was a former member of the Merrill School Board for many years. Mouse enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing cribbage, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, great-granddaughters and family. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. Mouse was well known and appreciated in the Merrill community.

Survivors include daughter Terry Oliver, Merrill; son John (Gloria), Merrill; grandchildren Angela (Jason) Kent, Fall Creek; Carl (Rebecca) Schenzel, Janesville; and Sean Oliver, Merrill; and great-granddaughters Kassandra and Kaitlyn Kent. Also surviving are brother, Marvin, Merrill; and sister-in-law Lois (Jack) Gillette, Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna "Jerry", and brother, Carl.

Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 31, at St. Stephen's United church of Christ, Merrill, Lic. Lay Pastor Missy Holsdorf officiated. Inurnment was in Merrill Memorial Park Columbarium. Full military honors were provided by the Merrill VFW Post 1638 Color Guard. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
