Dolores E. Chilsen-Mielke

Dolores Evelyn Chilsen-Mielke, 99, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., died Thursday, September 6, 2007, at her daughter's residence in Jacksonville, Fla.

Dolores was born April 8, 1908, in Merrill, daughter of the late Norman and Caroline Schultz Chilsen. She married Ardin H. Mielke on Feb. 26, 1955. He passed away on Sept. 30, 1987.

Dolores was a graduate of Merrill Senior High School. She then attended college where she studied art and music and earned her teaching degree. During this time she was introduced to the harp. While teaching elementary school she researched and wrote about the harp and performed throughout the upper Midwest, and shared her expertise with private students. Dolores and her husband moved to Kentucky where she was professor of harp at Western Kentucky University for nearly 20 years. Returning to her hometown of Merrill, she resumed harp lessons for many years. Dolores was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star with Highest Honors.

Survivors include her daughter Estella (Michael) Mielke-Ashby, Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren Michael Ashby II and Tina Marie Ashby, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; and great-grandchildren Katelyn Ashby, Amber Ashby and Jonathan Highsmith. She was preceded in death by her husband Ardin.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Ted Gulhaugen officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, was in charge of arrangements.
