Leslie James "Jim" O'Day, 78, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Merrill, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.

Jim was born June 3, 1929, in Visalia, Calif., to parents Leslie and Ella Shafer O'Day. He was a 1952 alumnus of Notre Dame where he earned a master's degree.

Early on, Jim taught social studies and coached football, basketball and baseball at Newman Catholic High School in Wausau. He was the publisher of the award winning Merrill Foto News and president of Quality Print Inc. and Highland Publishers. He also served as president and in other capacities with the Silver "M" Club, the National Association of Advertising Publishers and the Merrill Evening Lions Club. Jim made it a point to play many of the best golf courses in America and achieved a hole-in-one on his home course.

Jim is survived by his wife Alice O'Day, Georgetown, Texas; children Laureen O'Day, Kevin (Susie) O'Day, Megan (Tom Koth) O'Day and Kelly (Bethany) O'Day, all of Merrill; Reghan (Bruce Beelendorf) Walsh, Madison; Cullen (Yuki) O'Day, Reno, Nev.; Siobhan (Ben) Belghachi, Washington, D.C.; Brendan (Jamie) O'Day, Jackson; and Quinn (Amy) O'Day, Wauwatosa; grandchildren Erin (James Pfutzenrueter) Walsh, Cian, Kieran, Ingrid, Erik, Aileen, Ian, Evan, Eamonn and Keegan O'Day; and Hamadi and Griffin Belghachi; and great-grandchildren Bronson, Chloe and Collin Pfutzenrueter.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Dr., Georgetown, Texas 78628. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.

There will be an Irish wake on Friday, Nov. 2, 4-9 p.m., at Ballyhoo’s Brew & Chew, Merrill, for Jim O’Day, formerly of Merrill, who died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, in Georgetown, Texas. Jims’ friends are invited to attend.
