---Calmes, Bruce Joseph (29 Mar. 1951 – 30 Sept. 2007)

Bruce J. Calmes

Bruce Joseph Calmes, 56 years old, loving husband of 35 years, perfect father, extraordinary "Pa-Pa" joined his Heavenly Father on his journey home from a hunting trip on Sept. 30, 2007. Bruce sustained injuries due to a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Howland, Maine.

Bruce was baptized into the Christian faith in April 1951. He believed that nothing happens in our life unless it is filtered through God's hands first. John 11:25 -26 "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Bruce was born March 29, 1951, in Wausau, to Joseph and Geneva Calmes. He married Mary Jean Skic on April 8, 1972. Bruce was a senior claims representative for Wausau-Stettin Mutual Insurance Company in Wausau.

Survivors include his parents Joseph and Geneva; his mother-in-law Marie Skic; his wife Mary Jean, Merrill; children AJ and Angela (Hegemann) Calmes; Joshua and Bethany (Schoessow) Calmes; and Amanda Calmes; grandchildren Cole, Connor, Claire and Paityn Calmes; brother Duane (Carol); sisters Julie (Stan) Skic; Diane (Dan) Ostrowski, and Gayle (David) Koltzbuecher; sisters- and brothers-in-law Carol (Bruce) Hein, Rose (Calvin) Skic-Wilson, Matt Skic, Mark (Nina) Skic, Wally(Brenda) Skic, Louise (Mike) Hackel, and Luke (Michelle) Skic; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday, Oct. 5, at Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine. Rev. Kevin Hoogland officiated. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.

When I reach the end of my days, a moment or two from now, I must look backward on something more meaningful than the pursuit of houses, land, stocks and bonds. I will consider my earthly existence to have been wasted unless I can recall a loving family, a consistent investment in the lives of people, and an earnest attempt to serve the God who made me. Nothing else makes much sense.
