John W. Grans

John W. Grans Sr., 92, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, where he had resided for the last six years.

John was born March 21, 1915, in Rockford, Ill., son of the late Walter C. and Nan C. Gustafson Grans. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on July 25, 1915, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rockford, Ill. He was married on Christmas Day 1936 in Belvidere, Ill., to the former Edythe Hultgren, who died on March 18, 1995.

John received his formal education in the Rockford Public Schools and worked for most of his life as a salesman, primarily in the insurance business. The family moved from Rockford to Madison in 1942, where they lived until moving to California in 1963. Following the death of his wife, John returned to Wisconsin. John was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.

Survivors include his sons John W. (Lois Ann) Grans Jr., Madison; Michael (Mary) Grans and William Grans, both of California; three grandchildren and a great-grandson. He is further survived by his brother Marshall G., Rockford, Ill; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Edythe; sister Janice F. Kibort in 1993; and infant sister Jennett H. Grans.

John possessed a true sense of humor and with that endeared him to the many friends he made at Pine Crest and in the community.

Funeral services and burial will take place in Rockford, Ill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
