Walter H. Wegner

Walter Herman Wegner, 87, of Peshtigo, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Rennes Health Center, Peshtigo.

Born in Merrill on Sept. 13, 1920, Walter was the son of the late William and Emma Prochnow Wegner. He married Johanna Van Laarhoven on Oct. 24, 1942, in Merrill. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1999.

Walter lived for most of his life in Lincoln County where he was self-employed with his wife in the milk-hauling business and later worked for the Lincoln County Highway Department until his retirement. He also cut and hauled poplar and firewood with his wife and worked at his sister-in-law's ginseng venture. He enjoyed his work and especially enjoyed his time spent with family and friends.

Surviving are his daughters Jean (John) Peeters, Tomahawk; and Diane (Glen) Franzen, Crivitz; sons Larry (Beth), Rockford, Ill.; and Wayne, Minneapolis, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 6, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements.
