Martha M. Schneider

Martha M. Schneider, 101, Merrill, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born Sept. 21, 1906, in the town of Pine River, Martha was the daughter of the late William and Sophie Federer Schepp. She married Henry Schneider on May 3, 1924, in the town of Pine River. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1983.

Martha and her husband had owned and operated a cheese factory on Cain Creek Rd. in the town of Pine River. They later bought and operated the City Service gas station in Merrill and later farmed in the town of Scott. Then they ran the Spring Brook Inn Tavern in the town of Pine River until their retirement. Martha was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Merrill. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the homemakers club, bunco club, and a sewing club. Martha loved playing cards, crocheting, knitting, cooking, watching the birds and raising canaries. She also enjoyed growing flowers and plants, and collecting salt and pepper shakers and teddy bears.

Survivors include her daughters Joyce Henrich, Merrill; and Judy (Jerry) Moeck, Woodruff; sons Lloyd (Dorothy) and Ronald (Shirley), both of Merrill; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 12, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Kelly Leary officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
