John Lyon

John Lyon, 81, Merrill, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

John was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Marion, Ill., son of the late Richard and Ella Wensel Lyon.

After graduating from Marion High School, he attended UW Madison and later joined the U.S. Navy - Great Lakes Division, during World War II. On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Lee Ann Linden in Antigo. John was the golf professional at the Merrill Golf Club for many years until his retirement. He loved golf, cross word puzzles, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters Jole (Alan Lupton) Hinz, Liz Mathis and Lori (Joel) Ruprecht, all of Merrill; son John M. (Arleen Cates), Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren Andrew (Jennah) Lyon, Paul Mathis, Matthew and Tyler Hinz and Molly Ruprecht, all of Merrill; step-great-granddaughter Tiffany; and sister Barbara Kendrick, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lee Ann, on Sept. 5, 2007; son Greg; and brothers Richard and James.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
