Helen Zabawa

Helen Zabawa, 91, of 1010 E. Wausau Ave., Wausau, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.

Helen was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Chicago, Ill.; daughter of the late John and Agnes Bogdanski. She married John W. Zabawa on July 25, 1936, in Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2002.

Helen was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, going to the casino, watching television, and taking care of her dogs, especially 'Benji.'

Survivors include her sons Gerald (Avila), Madison; Donald (Beverly), Tomahawk; and Richard, Wausau; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Josephine Sokulski, Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by grandson Kevin Zabawa in July 1991; and brother Walter Bogdanski.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com.
