Gerald L. Leih

Gerald L. Leih, 67, of 2100 E. Sixth Street, Merrill, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under the care of his family, the nursing home staff, and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Gerald was born January 19, 1939, in Marathon County, son of the late George and Hela (Schulz) Leih.

Gerald had been employed at the former Northern Door Manufacturing, Merrill. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Gerald enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia, and he could tell you anything about tractors. He also enjoyed listening to music, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and visiting with his many friends at the nursing home.

Survivors include his sister in law, Johanna Leih, and his brother in law, Albert "Sonny" Ziemke, both of Merrill; eight nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Tony) Fischer, Patty (Barry) Benzinger, Melody (Michael) Matchett, Merlin (Jean) Leih, Sharon (John) Woller, Lynn (Mark) Roeder, Steve (Gina) Leih, and Pam Leih; several great nieces and nephews; and his Pine Crest family. Gerald is preceded in death by sisters Gertrude Leih and Helen Ziemke, and by brother, Lenhard.

Gerald's funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at the Pine Crest Nursing Home Chapel, Merrill. The Rev. Alden J. Beversdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the nursing home. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
