Kermit R. Golisch

Kermit R. Golisch, 69, of 306 N. Van Rensselaer St., Merrill, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Kermit was born July 3, 1936, in the town of Stettin, Marathon County, son of the late Milford and Mildred Grewe Golisch. He married Barbara Graap on Nov. 9, 1963, in Merrill. She survives.

Kermit served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 until 1961, and was stationed on Okinawa. He was a lathe operator at Marathon Electric and retired after 30 years of service. Many years ago he also had his own milk route in the town of Stettin that he operated for 10 years. Kermit was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. He enjoyed hunting, logging, and spending time with his sons on the family property in “Newwood.” Kermit also enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, and playing Bingo. He was a former Cub Scout leader. Kermit never missed a sporting event that his family was involved with. He assisted as a Little League coach and provided the van to transport the American Legion baseball team when his sons and other team members played out of town. Most of all, Kermit enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, Merrill; daughter Heidi Golisch, Merrill; sons Clint (Melanie), Kevin (Jodi), Kyle and Kenyon, all of Merrill; and grandchildren Michael, Luke, Hope, Ryan, Bailee, Emma and David. Also surviving are sisters Shirley Schmidt and Sandra (Butch) Sann, both of Wausau; and Beverly (Peter) Hanson, Merrill; sisters-in-law Audrey Heuser, Eunice Schubert and Kathy Graap, all of Merrill; and Virginia (Marvin) McElhaney, Wausau; and brothers-in-law Charles Graap Jr. and Ken (Carolyn) Graap, both of Merrill.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 13, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park with graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1638 of Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hilary Scully for her care and compassion during Kermit’s illness.
