Grace E. Smith

Grace E. Smith, 85, of Merrill, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born on Aug. 7, 1920, in Merrill, Grace was the daughter of the late Richard and Olga Duberstein Krause. She married Donald Smith in Merrill on March 19, 1938. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1999.

Grace was a homemaker. She enjoyed following the Milwaukee Brewers, going to casinos, watching wrestling on television, and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son Philip (Mavis), Merrill; daughter-in-law Nancy Smith, Merrill; grandchildren Michael (Kristine) Smith, Kathryn (Michael) Schneider, Bruce (Dawn) Smith, and Richard (Stacy) Smith Jr., all of Merrill; and Scott (Billie Jo Graap) Smith, Tomahawk; granddaughter-in-law Barbara Smith (Mark’s widow), Merrill; 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great- granddaughter. Also surviving are sister Marie (Alan) Stahnke, Goodrich; brother Kenneth (Eunice) Krause, Gleason; and special friends Ted and Diane Lemanski, Merrill. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, son Richard and grandson Mark.

Funeral services were Monday, June 12, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
