Hertha I. Burbey

Hertha I. Burbey, 85, of Oconto, formerly of Merrill, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Green Bay.

Hertha was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Merrill, daughter of the late Paul and Minnie Paque Schulz. She married Albert Mahn in September of 1940. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1960. She then married Wesley Burbey in Milwaukee on Oct. 11, 1969.

Hertha loved the outdoors, especially fishing. She also enjoyed many kinds of handiwork and was known for her beautiful afghans. For many years, Hertha and Wesley were “snowbirds” who wintered in Arizona.

In addition to her husband Wesley, Hertha is survived by her daughter Arlene (Richard) Statz, Merrimac (formerly of Waunakee); son Larry (Mary Jane) Mahn, Merrill; stepdaughters Barbara Burbey, Milwaukee; and Tamara (Michael) Jasculka, Mequon; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Paul (Gertrude) Schulz and Herbert Schulz, both of Merrill. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Cecilia Mahn and Helen Schulz; brother Herman Schulz, and granddaughter Susan Riffle.

Services were held Saturday, May 27, at Gallagher’s Funeral Home, Oconto. Intern Pastor Roy Nelson officiated
