Valeria M. Schield

Valeria M. Shield, 93, of Merrill, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born in the town of Corning on April 5, 1913, Valeria was the daughter of the late August and Maria Hass Radloff. She married Clarence Borchardt on Sept. 29, 1934, in the town of Berlin. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1959. On June 6, 1964, Valeria married Edmund Shield in the town of Berlin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1988.

Valeria was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband in the town of Corning. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Merrill. Valeria was an excellent cook and baker, well known for her donuts and peanut bars. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for each of her grandchildren. Valeria will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her daughters Virginia (Gordon) Krause and Eunice (Gilbert) Koehler, both of Merrill; son Jerome (Donna) Borchardt, Watertown; step-daughter Julie (Gerald) Revie, Merrill; grandchildren Angela, Geoffrey, Mark, Debra, Bruce, Brian, Michael, Tim and Chris; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husbands Clarence Borchardt and Edmund Schield and sister Leona Prast.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. James Weiland officiated. Burial was in Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, town of Berlin. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
