Verna A. Haas

Verna Antonia Haas, 87, formerly of Medford, passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Woodland Court in Merrill.

Verna was born Sept. 16, 1919, in the town of Maine, to the late Winifred and Bertha Braun Beilke. On Dec. 31, 1943, she married Frank Haas in Merrill. They shared 34 years together. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1977.

Verna was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, bingo at the Hardees in Medford, knitting and crocheting. She made several afghans for both her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons James (Patti), Onalaska; Donald (Elaine), Kronenwetter; and Franklin, Gibsonia, Pa.; daughter Mary Ann Detert, Wausau; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are brothers Rueben Beilke, Monclova, Ohio; and Gerald (Grace) Beilke, Hixon; and sisters Bette Koeffler, Appleton; and Ruth (Albert) Schumacher and Lorrie (Michael) Springer, both of Merrill. She was preceded in death by son Tom; daughter Helen Kelly; granddaughter Siarra Detert; brothers Donald, Franklin, James, Roy and Earl Beilke; and sisters Helen Stearns, Laona Beilke and Irene Mursa.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
