Jonas James Leopold Jonas, 80, of 6300 Birch St., Weston, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. James was born April 15, 1926, in Wausau, to the late Leroy and Helen Wadinski Jonas Sr. He married Doloris Elson at Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau, on Aug. 18, 1951. She died Aug. 8, 2001. Jim and Doloris, along with his brother and father, operated the Jonas fur farm in Rib Mountain for about 30 years. Jim took a second job working at UWMC until his retirement in July 1993. Jim and Doloris spent vacations at Razorback Lake, camping with their family. He enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends for 65 plus years. He liked growing flowers, feeding birds, and his many pet dogs. Jim was a very kind man and will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his sons John (Cherryl), Weston; and Jake (Jane), Woodruff; grandchildren Alan (Holly) Jonas, Ocala, Fla.; Amy (Brian) Saari and Jeremy Jonas, both of Wausau; and Joe (Kristin) Jonas, Oshkosh; great-grandsons Grayson and Mathias Saari; brother LeRoy (Ruth) Jonas Jr., Rib Mountain; and nieces and nephews. Memorial services were Sat. Dec. 16, at the Brainard Funeral Home-Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston. Rev. Stephen Russell officiated. A special thanks to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice and the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lincoln county Humane Society, 200 N. Memorial Dr., Merrill. Online condolences at www.brainardfuneral.com.
