Gary R. Yanda

Gary R. Yanda, 54, formerly of Merrill, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at his home in Auburn, Ill.

Gary was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Merrill, son of David and Bernice Schmidt Yanda.

Gary served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed two of those years in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He then attended Milwaukee Area Technical College and graduated with an associates degree in electronics. While in Milwaukee, he met his wife Sandra Barrett and was married in 1982. Gary moved to Three Lakes where he worked in TV repair. He then moved his family to Auburn, Ill., where he spent most of his time as an over the road truck driver until 2000, when he was disabled. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Green Bay Packers and baseball.

Surviving are his wife Sandra, Auburn, Ill.; sons Richard (Lisa) and Christopher, both of Springfield, Ill.; two grandchildren; and his mother Bernice Yanda, Stevens Point. Also surviving are brother Keith (Leann), sisters Diane Bartley, Milwaukee; Julie (Joe) Gryskiewicz, Merrill; and Debra Yanda, Stevens Point; and brother-in-law Mike Jelinski, Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 21, at Bramely Funeral Home, Auburn, Ill. Rev. David Van Bebber officiated. Inurnment will be at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Auburn, Ill. Emergency Squad.
