Laure E. Gibson

Laura E. Gibson, 100, of 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Laura was born June 9, 1906, in the town of Pine River, daughter of the late Elmer and Annie Kanitz Swanson.

Laura had worked at Merrill Woolen Mills for 25 years, and also at Weinbrenner Shoe Company for 20 years. Laura was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, where she was involved with the Mission Guild. Laura enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, embroidery, cooking, baking and canning. Laura also enjoyed attending Bible classes and church services at Pine Crest Nursing Home.

Survivors include her son Ralph (Peggy), Merrill; grandchildren Eleanor (Ray) Schwartz, Merrill; and Ralph Gibson Jr., San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren Jennifer (David) Sitz, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Kristin (Branden) Harland, Merrill; and great-great-grandchildren Tyler Schwartz, Brenden Harland and Lucas Sitz. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Connie Swanson and Eva Swanson, both of Merrill. She was preceded in death by sisters Hilma Ullman and Grace VanHaren and brothers-in-law Martin Ullman and Lawrence VanHaren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
