August E. Mahn

August E. Mahn, 86, of Merrill, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born in Buena Vista on Dec. 9, 1919, August was the son of the late August and Hulda Schmidt Mahn Sr. He married Emma Hulke on March 2, 1940, in Merrill. She survives.

August had worked in the shipyards in Wilmington, Del.; and Sturgeon Bay. He also worked at the former Tiny Tot Manufacturing, then retired from Weinbrenner Shoe Company. August was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. He enjoyed playing in his polka band, the Mahn Brothers, and also the Bill Ewert Band; fishing; hunting; snowmobiling and traveling.

He is survived by his wife Emma, Merrill; daughter Shirley (Michael) Ziert, Merrill; son Bill (Donna), Merrill; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sister Louise Krueger, and brothers Art, Albert, Glen, Carl, Raymond and Arley.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Brian Stolarczyk officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
