Raymond L. Nowak

On Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, Raymond L. Nowak, 86, passed from this earth at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, Fla.

Raymond was born in Wausau on Feb. 20, 1920, to the late John and Clara Nowak. He married Alma Ziegelmeier.

A U.S. Army veteran, Raymond served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as part of the Signal Corps. A man who loved mechanics, he became a machinist by trade until his retirement as superintendent of maintenance at Ward Paper Co., Merrill. A resident of Merrill for more than 20 years, at retirement he relocated to Vero Beach, Fla., in 1986, where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his brother Donnie (Marge), Chesapeake, Va.; daughter Rae Jean (Alan) Kaatz, Dorchester; and sons Rick (Deborah), Palatine, Ill.; Randy L., Barrington, Ill.; and Rodney (Lisa), Vero Beach, Fla. He is the cherished grandfather of Jeff (Barbara) Kaatz, Jane (Robert) Ropella, Jodie (Jim) Verbenka, Jamie (Jenny) Kaatz, Kristin (Keith) Waters, Jason Nowak, Rebecca Nowak, Allison Nowak and Cory (Jennel) Nowak; as well as nine endearing great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years Alma Ziegelmeier Nowak; sister Adeline Fenhaus; and darling grandchild Colton J. Nowak.

Funeral services were held at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Fla., with burial with full military honors in Hillside Cemetery, Vero Beach. Memorial donations may be directed to the VNA Hospice, 901 37th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
