Alma Wenzel

Alma Wenzel, 94, of N6358 Nelson Ave., Irma, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Alma was born Aug. 13, 1912, on her parents' farm in the town of Easton, daughter of the late John F. and Ida Baumann Krueger. On July 2, 1932, she married Walter Wenzel in the town of Easton. They farmed together in the town of Hewitt and then Easton until their retirement.

Alma enjoyed dining out, socializing with family, playing sheephead with friends, and took great delight being with the grandchildren and reading to the great-grandchildren. She also took great pride in her gardens and especially her love of flowers. Also, her love of travel over the years took her to Europe, Canada, Hawaii and various locations within the United States. She had been very active in Zion Lutheran's Ladies Aid and did volunteer work at Bethesda and Colonial Manor.

After Alma and Walter retired from farming in 1978, they lived on Gowan St. in Wausau. Alma lived in Wausau for 20 years and in later life lived with her daughter in Irma for 6½ years prior to going to Colonial Manor for six months.

Survivors include her son Don (Marie), Wausau; daughters Marilyn (Bud) Suckow, Stratford; and Marlene Fox, Irma; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, sisters Hedwig, Lillie, Esther, and Viola, brother Jim, infant twin siblings, and her great-great-granddaughter Cecelia.

Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, town of Easton. Rev. David Faulkner officiated with Rev. Hans J. Heisinger of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Irma, assisting. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
