Leona Ziemer

Leona Ziemer 75, of W2912 Maple Rd., town of Pine River, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Leona was born November 20, 1930, in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late John and Mary Knetter Wieloch. She married Edward Ziemer on April 5, 1952, at St. Luke’s Church, town of Pine River. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1999.

Leona and Ed were cheesemakers at various cheese factories in the town of Pine River. She continued to work at Pine Grove Cheese, Merrill, after the death of her husband. Leona enjoyed word searches, flowers, hummingbirds and cooking. She loved her cat, Fred. Leona especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and her family was blessed to have her. “She was the greatest ‘Nana’ in the world.”

Leona is survived by daughter Kathy Walters and son Carmen (Barb) Ziemer, both of Merrill; sons-in-law Dennis Dengel and Gerald Lemke, both of Merrill; grandchildren Susan (James Schwartz) Spatz, Gary (Mary Houghtaling) Lemke, Diana (Jerome) Alsteen, Allen (Dawn) Lemke, Daniel (Jamie) Lemke, John Lemke, Debbie (Robert) Kufahl, Dewey (Becky) Dengel, Darrel (Melissa) Dengel, Shellee (Chad) Sabatke, Sherry Walters, Jonathan Walters, Abby (Craig Thomas) Ziemer, Erin (Evan) White, and Andy, Bob and George Spransy; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings Marvin Wieloch, Milwaukee; Jean (Jerry) Bolf, Schofield; and Pat Wagner, Edgar; and sister-in-law Genny Wieloch, Merrill. She was preceded in death by daughters Charlene Lemke and Georgene Dengel; son-in-law Lawrence Walters; and siblings Ann Flehmer, and Andy, Ray and Tony Wieloch.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Town of Pine River. Rev. Mary Zupansic officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
