Frances M. Henke

Frances Marie Henke, 84, of Merrill, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Woodland Court Elder Services CBRF under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born March 8, 1922, in Bessemer, Mich., Frances was the daughter of the late William and Clelia Pagliero Certano. She married Gilbert Henke in Baraboo on March 24, 1945. He died on Nov. 13, 1977.

Frances was a 1940 graduate of Bessemer High School in Bessemer, Mich. She worked at the Baraboo Munitions Plant in Baraboo during World War II, where she met her husband Gilbert. They moved to the Merrill area after the war. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm and working in the woods. Frances had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Wausau where she was very involved in many church activities including the Hill Toppers. She was currently a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Merrill. Frances will be remembered as a Proverbs 31 Woman. She took care of her family, her husband, working hard for others including the needy, and will be remembered as a virtuous woman. "Her children rise up and call her blessed.”

Survivors include her daughter Marge (Randy) Schultz, Merrill; son Jim (Marcia), Merrill; grandchildren Jeff Boquist, Andy Boquist, Shawn (Nikki) Henke, Travis (Nancy) Henke, Angie Gronski and Theresa Schultz; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Betty (Charles) Capendo and Dorothy (John) Stempihar, both of Bessemer, Mich.; and brother Joseph Certano, Baltimore, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, brother Domenic and sister Inez Barbacovi.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 18, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Carolyn Saunders officiated. Burial was in Methodist Cemetery, town of Corning.
