Margaret M. Laak

Margaret M. Laak, 89, formerly of 711 E. First St., Merrill, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Margaret was born March 14, 1917, in Athens, daughter of the late Jesse and Clara Kosky Fishbeck. She married Clarence Laak in Merrill on Nov. 9, 1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1984.

Margaret was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Her church was very important to her. Margaret enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, sewing and reading. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Vivian (Lawrence) Sczygelski, Merrill; Joseph (Linda), Burnet, Texas; Robert (Julaine), Mary (Arlen) Raduechel, and Jerald (Debbie), all of Merrill; Daniel (JoAnne), Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Susan Laak, Merrill; and Patricia Thorn, Reedsville; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Barbara (Glen) Ames, Kalispel, Mont.; and brother Clifford (Gladus) Fishbeck, Tomahawk. She was preceded in death by her son Roy, granddaughter Jeri Ann Laak, great-granddaughter Mary Ann Arnold, sister Vera Nettum, and brothers Harold and Roy Fishbeck.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 26, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
