Arthur L. Kafka

Arthur Leo Kafka, 84, of Merrill, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Stratford, Arthur was the son of the late Frank and Anna Ottelein Kafka Jr. He married Cecilia Dennee on Aug. 30, 1947, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stratford. She survives.

Arthur was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army between 1942 and 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post 4 of Athens. Arthur retired in 1983 after 30 years of farming in the town of Bern. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was an avid year-round fisherman. He was a volunteer for the Merrill food pantry.

Survivors include his wife Cecilia "Marge," Merrill; son Jim, Racine; daughter Ann (Leon) Zettler, Edgar; and grandchildren Joshua and Elizabeth, both of Edgar; and Heather, Wausau. He was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth, Floyd, Erhardt and Clarence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath will officiate. Visitation will be this evening, July 26, 4-8 p.m., at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. and again Thursday morning, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill.
