(21 Sept. 1918 – 13 Feb. 2007) Martha J. Voigt Martha J. Voigt, 88, of 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, died Tuesday, Feb.13, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Martha was born Sept. 21, 1918, in the town of Pine River, daughter of the late John and Gebke Ehmen Renken. She and Richard H. Voigt were married on Aug. 28, 1943, at St. Luke's Church in the town of Pine River, by the Rev. Karl F. Schmidt. Martha and Richard farmed in the town of Pine River for several years. In 1950, they bought a supper club on the Prairie River in the town of Merrill. They owned and operated 'Dick's Riverside Club' until 1973, providing, food, drinks and entertainment as a popular gathering spot. After selling 'Dick's Riverside Club,' Martha worked at Les and Jim's, The Fairway Supper Club, Highway 51 Truck Stop, and the Lincoln County Fair Dairyland Stand. In her younger years, Martha worked in Hazelhurst and at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Merrill. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she was involved in the Ladies Aid, and cooked at many of their functions, including funerals. She was a member of the Valparaiso Guild at her church. Martha also worked at the St. John Lutheran Fair Stand for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Tri-H Homemakers Club. Martha was also a volunteer with Wisconsin Public Television and The American Red Cross. She also started the Prairie River Hawks 4-H Club with the help of Bob Sumnicht. She enjoyed working outdoors with her flowers and she also enjoyed visiting relatives throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. Survivors besides her husband Richard, Merrill; include her daughter Karen Tipton, Appleton; son Mark, Merrill; grandson Thomas Tipton, Hartford, Conn.; brother Stan (Marge) Renken, Apple Valley, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Beth; sisters Tena Lenz and Lydia Peeters; and brothers Ulrich, Albert, Herman and Willis. Memorial services were Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Alden J. Beversdorf officiated. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family. The family requests that memorials be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.
