Glen J. Teskey

Glen J. Teskey, 77, of 800 E. 7th St., Merrill, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at his home.

Glen was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Merrill, son of the late Silas and Gelena (Dahle) Teskey. He married Rose Mary Kreis on Dec. 16, 1950, in Merrill. She preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 1994.

Glen had been corporate secretary/treasurer at the Taylor Funeral Home in Merrill, retiring in December of 1984. He had also worked at the former Schumacher Locker Plant in Merrill, and also at the former Peterman Brothers Department Store, Merrill. Glen attended Merrill schools and was a 1947 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1950. During the Korean War he was stationed in Guam. Glen also served 12 years in the Army Active Reserve with the 84th Division. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill, and American Legion Post 46, Merrill. Glen was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. At the church, he served 4 years as secretary on the church council, had served on the church's financial team, and had been a member of the Usher's Club. He was a member of Forest Lodge #130 of the Free & Accepted Masons, Wausau, and was also a Shriner. He was past president of the former Lincoln Bow Hunters. He was a charter member of the "Tower Road Association", and served for over 20 years as association secretary. Glen was involved with the Merrill Boy Scout Troop 301 for 21 years, and held various positions as scout master, assistant scout master, institutional representative, committee chairman, commissioner, and district committee member. He was a member of the "Order of the Arrow". Glen received scouting's highest honors: the Scouter of the Year Award in 1955, the Eagle Feather Award in 1968, and the Silver Beaver Award in January 1975. In 1968, Glen received the Merrill Optimist award for service to youth. Glen enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time at his cabin in the town of Corning where he could feed the deer and observe wildlife.

Survivors include daughters Linda (Pat) Zipp, Green Bay, and Diane (Steve) Peterson, Merrill; grandchildren Matt and Jason Zipp, and Lindsey and Amanda Peterson; and a special friend, Shirley Kloss, Merrill.

The funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 9, at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf officiated. Burial is in Merrill Memorial Park, with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
