Gerald R. "Jerry" Pankow, 80, formerly of the town of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Jerry was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Merrill, son of the late Robert and Emma Pankow. He married Elaine F. Smith on Nov. 27, 1948, in Racine. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1988.

Jerry was the former owner/operator of "Pankow's Bar" in the town of Rock Falls. He also worked in commercial construction and was a former member of Local 1359 Laborers Union. Jerry was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, and had been a member of the Ushers' Club. He was an avid bowler, having one "300" game to his credit. Jerry earned membership into the "700 Club" at Lincoln Lanes and was elected to the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, and playing his concertina. Jerry was a former member of the Rock Falls Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club. Jerry served in the U.S.Navy during World War II and was aboard ship in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his daughters Karen Monti, Merrill; and Donna (Joe) Massa, Tomahawk; sons Robert (Julia), Tomahawk; and David (Ann), Irma; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his beloved wife, he is preceded in death by son-in-law Joseph Monti; great-grandson Michael; sisters Ruth Walters, Alice Krause, Eva Krueger and Violet Smith; and brother Wilbert.

Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 20, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
