Franklin L. Wegner, 66, of Merrill, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Born in Merrill on March 28, 1939, Franklin was the son of the late Edwin and Mabel Wendt Wegner. He married Astrid Herrmannsdoerfer on June 14, 1962, in Nuernberg, Germany. She survives.

Franklin was a 1958 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He then served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army from 1958 to 1964 in Germany. Franklin then worked as a mechanic and later became an appliance service specialist for Sears, where he worked for over 30 years. He was also a dairy farer in the town of Corning. He currently was working for Ackert Brothers Appliances in Medford. Franklin was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Berlin. He was branch president of AAL 2597 for over 30 years and served in many offices in the church. He was also a delegate for Northland Lutheran High School.

Surviving are his wife Astrid, Merrill; daughters, Marion (Wayne) Lammert, Merrill; Brenda (James) Jahnke, Athens; Susan (Louis) Banuelos, Aurora, Ill.; and Robbin (Steve) Ranta, Merrill; son Robert (Kathy), Merrill; and grandchildren Danielle and Christopher Lammert, Kyle Jahnke, Brandon Banuelos, Jennifer and Sarah Ranta, Patricia Wegner and Stacy Skutt. Also surviving are sister Margaret (Roger) Kniess, Wausau; brother-in-law Richard Hagedorn, Merrill; sister-in-law Henrietta Wegner, Stetsonville; aunts Adeline Wendt, Merrill; and Verna Wegner, Tomahawk; uncle Walter Wegner, Crivitz; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son David, brother Harry, and sister Dolores Hagedorn and grandson Michael Lammert.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church WELS, town of Berlin. Rev. Jeffery Schmidt officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the America Cancer Society, Northland Lutheran High School, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund or the charity of your chose.
